THE WORK OF ZACK ZDRALE IS INFLUENCED BY A SOLID ACADEMIC APPROACH TO PAINTING AND ILLUSTRATION
CARMEN HUST | ARTICULATE #18 | JANUAR 2019 The creative drive in American artist Zack Zdrale (1977), is driven by a need to draw well in the aim to understand what he’s seeing. Zdrales preferred media is oil paint, as he finds it rich and tactile, having its own life. The works of Zdrale emerge as visual ideas and are often riffs on words and phrases. Zdrale has to merge his ideas with their feasibility. He’s pre-sketching to work out the original idea out, considering the space, model and light available to him. To Zdrale the key element in creating a good composition, consists of balance and the rhythm of its movement.

The works of Zdrale are influenced by solid academic figurative illustration and painting. Among others, the work of Mexican artist Ramón Alexander Hurtado (1989) and how he manages structural anatomy and history, is of great inspiration to Zdrale. Likewise, Zdrale is inspired by American artist Michael Klein (East Oaks Studio) and his interpretation of colors, which makes a lot of sense to Zdrale.
In addition, Zdrale too is inspired by the management of anatomy, mastered by American realist painter Robert Liberace (1967) and American artist Dan Thompson. Zdrale explains, that looking and studying their work humbles and motivates him. This article about ZACK ZDRALE takes part of ARTICULATE #18.
