Some people say my art expresses death, fear, ugliness, war and even the devil. They are right, but then also the one who sees through the superficial will see an outcry for the contrary. I took away every layer of identity and came down to the bones. That's how I started mostly painting skulls and skeletons. In this way I don't need to think of who I'm painting, I'm painting everyone at once, trying to communicate and reach out to anyone. The absence of identity is important in my focus on the relation between nature and humans. But also interesting is that the absence of the layers of identity don't take away the expression of individuality. Skeletons reminds us of death, that we are dying, but they can also express other strong emotions and the need for love. Sometimes first when you see through the surface of fear, you'll see the love and compassion in its depth, from within. When the perception suddenly changes from what was simple at first intosomething complex, it becomes alive.
