A R T I S T O F W I N T E R 2 0 1 7Tersløse’s description of the ‘computer-generated image’ has often given cause for surprise. In contrast to what one might expect, he never uses photographic material in his pictures. Each element (child, bird, pistol, etc.) is built up from models using advanced 3D computer programmes, and then combined to create the final product.
Tersløse consistently plays with the viewer’s doubts and uncertainties. Every time we think we have understood the point his art is making, it challenges us in a new way. The ‘rules’ are forever being reinvented despite the artist’s simple, even serene imagery. Tersløse is out to explore and to evoke bewilderment, uncertainty and ambiguity. His art is an attempt to capture the puzzling, the magically inexplicable that arises when apparently simple artistic concepts and motifs are the gateway to a world that turns out to be far more complex than anticipated. |
