CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS “We run together through the virtual quarries” Submission Deadline: April 19 Late capitalism's extractive logics manifest in the transformation of spaces and displacement of matter on a global scale, excavating territories and histories to form underworld spaces like holes and tunnels, which expand beneath cities. This underworld, rich with mythical narratives like the Minotaur's labyrinth, mirrors our digital existence in the "cave" of contemporary society, where we become digital laborers in our individualized caves, navigating tailored digital shadows. This digital and physical cave symbolizes transformation and adaptation, prompting reflection on our entanglement with technology and inviting creative exploration of these dark underworlds as spaces of technological domination and potentiality. Connected Matter is pleased to invite submissions of new media, video, XR art, installations and performances that explore the themes of mining, extraction, and their links to the digital world. The theme's interpretation is open and can be metaphorical. We welcome submission from artists interested in the relationship between sustainability, physicality and virtuality. Proposals that are in the initial stages of development are welcomed. Submissions can include both new and existing works. Financial support:
The total budget allocated for artist honorariums is 1,000 euros (7,500 DKK), which will be distributed among artists. Who can apply? ● The call for proposals is open to both individual artists and groups. ● A glitch feminist and anti-colonial collective, we invite submissions from QTPOC. For this edition, we also want to put the emphasis on artists connected to areas impacted by mining operations — such as Greenland, Iceland, Congo, Chile, and similar regions, including their diasporas. Technical support: Basement offers basic technical support and sound equipment. For any specialized technical needs, we largely recommend bringing your own equipment. That being said, we are open to working together on a potential solution.
